    Appreciation

Posted by Dave on Saturday, January 05, 2008 @ 07:27 PM

I think it's time that I stopped focusing on what I can't do yet, long enough to appreciate and be grateful for what I can.  We saw the Swedish physiacal therapist the other day and she basically contradicted everything the OMC therapist told me.  She thought I had about 90% of normal function and gave me a whole set of exercises for the last 10%.  She said I could exercise without it hurting the nerves and it would in fact encourage collateral nerve development.  She said I don't have to give up the hot tub as long as it's reasonable.

Yesterday I walked down to the mailbox and back (a mile) and coming up the hill was a lot of work and I was pretty shot when I got back.  Today I did it faster, with very little effort and didn't feel like I needed to rest when  I got back.  Most people would be hard pressed to distinguish my walk from normal.  Now I need more stamina.

The Betaseron that I will be from now on, has a $50 co-pay each month for $2000 worth of medicine!  That helps hugely!  My right fingertips are still numb, but my hand works and I can write and hold a spoon again.

So I have much to be grateful for, even though there is still a long way to go.

    Dave
