    Krill Oil

Posted by Heatherdawn on Monday, April 30, 2007 @ 07:17 AM
This is a "new" supplement that some of you might be interested in checking out. I'm sure most of you have heard about the benefits of fish oil for its Omega-3 content, but Krill oil has been proven to be an even better source - without the potential mercury that even the fish oil supplements can contain. It is much more easily absorbed by your body, contains antioxidants (which fish oil does not), is not as perishable and doesn't have that awful fish aftertaste (believe me, I've tried almost every brand of fish oil out there and even those touted as "no aftertaste" haunt me all day long).

In human studies, Antarctic Pure Neptune Krill Oil supplementation demonstrates anti-aging characteristics, makes women feel younger, demonstrates anti-wrinkle fighting power, supports healthy joints, the heart, lipid and blood sugar levels, energy production, athletic performance and liver function, and eases women's PMS symptoms.

Unfortunately, fish oil is weak in antioxidant content. Not only that, but as you increase your intake of omega-3 essential fatty acids by consuming fish oil, you actually increase your need for even more antioxidant protection.

A healthy heart, with reduction in heart-damaging inflammation
    Improved concentration, memory & learning
    Stabilization of blood sugar levels
Healthy joints, with a decrease in pain and symptoms associated with arthritis
Fighting the damaging effects of aging
Healthy brain and nervous system function and development
    Protection for cell membranes
Improvement in cholesterol and other blood lipid levels
    Healthy liver function
Relief of PMS symptoms and painful menstrual periods
    Bolstering the immune system
    Healthy mood regulation
    Optimal skin health
    Improved quality of life

You can find more info on the web, of course and I buy mine from mercola.com which has been sited by many doctors and health advisors as being very reputable. He's a lot like the modern Dr. Weil in his advice to get back to all things natural.

I have personally tried the Krill oil and, while the capsules still smell a little funny, I don't taste them (while taking them, or at any point thereafter) and I can say that I do feel like I have a little better control over my mood swings. I haven't had the chance to test them for PMS symptoms yet, but there have been a lot of reports that show promise in that area. Of course, if you're allergic to shellfish or shrimp, DO NOT take.
