    Help Documentation Now Available

Posted by Jeff on Wednesday, March 05, 2008 @ 09:44 PM

For those who are interested, the Help section of the site is now up and available. I've already added a few articles that I hope will help you get acclimated to the new surroundings. Over the next few weeks I plan on continuing to populate this section with various articles that might prove useful so if you're having problems with something, check the Help section first. It might save you some heartache. There's a lot of new functionality that wasn't available in the old app so bear with me as I attempt to get everything documented. I will get there eventually.

If you'd like me to address any particular functionality that's not currently covered in the Help docs, please let me know and I'll get it added.

It's almost 1am here so I'm heading for snoozville. Sure glad I have my own personal driver tomorrow... er today. HypnotizedSilly

    Good night,

You are not only going to need your own personal driver, but you will have to have someone standing around holding your head up all day.

    Sleeping

I downloaded the latest version of Mozilla, and even on dial up, it did not take very long. I did not stick around to see how long exactly, but I am guess it took about fifteen or twenty minutes???

Thanks for the HELP section. Grandparents might find this helpful too. I don't know if Grandma Anne keeps up on the blogs, but I know that Grandpa Ed does. I will check in with him to see if he needs any help...I would bet that his Internet Explorer needs to be updated.

I like that this saves the post automatically...before I publish it. Cool!

    Cool

    Little emoticons are neat too!

Well I stopped by Starbucks on the way in so hopefully it will assist with the "propping".

Glad to hear Firefox downloaded quickly. The latest version will give you the best overall performance on the site. Grandpa was using Firefox I believe as of the last go-around, but it's probably still version 1.5x so it will need to be updated too.

The Help section is a work in progress and will most likely continue to be that way for several months. I asked Heatherdawn this morning if she wouldn't mind contributing to the documentation and she actually said she would if she had time. So that will help.

The "auto-save" feature is just one of many new functions that help improve the blogging process. It currently saves every two minutes automatically if the content has changed. If you guys think it needs to be more often let me know. You can also click the "Save" button to accomplish the same thing manually as you add content.

The "Save" button is only available on drafts, but the "auto-save" feature works both in Draft and Published mode. If you've created a blog entry but don't want to publish it yet, simply click the "Save" button, wait for the "Item saved successfully at..." confirmation, and then click the "Close" button to close out the editor. You can return to your post at any time for further editing by clicking on the "Drafts" link under Post Functions. Once you are ready to make the post available to the public, click on it to view it, then click the "Edit" button to edit it. Once in the editor window, just click the "Publish" button and voila, you're done. Don't forget to ensure the group permissions are set the way you want them before you publish. If you forget, simply edit the post again, change the settings and click "Update".

I will most likely be adding the contents of this post or something similar to the Help docs shortly.
