Sep 28th - Will It Be Make or Break

Posted by Jeff on Thursday, September 14, 2006 @ 07:01 PM
For those of you who haven't been following the current trends of Ford Motor Company, they will be debuting the next flavor of the Super Duty line in Texas on September 28th.  The next model produced will actually be considered a 2008 model year truck and is currently expected to hit dealer lots sometime in mid-January of 2007.  Production cycles have slowly been pushed back over the years to the point where it's difficult to even order a truck with the same calendar year after April.  They are usually retooling and preparing for the next year's build by then.

There have been spy photos and lots of speculation as to specs on the new line but hopefully after 28 Sep, we will no longer have to be guessing.  The next generation Super Duty line is getting an all new 6.4L common rail diesel with twin-turbos.  The rumors currently have the engine numbers at 350HP and 650ft lbs of torque.  But that may change in just a couple of weeks.  The Duramax currently totes 360/650 respectively, so the question is whether Ford will attempt to surpass the competition or go in favor of longevity and dependability.

Although I'm sure some of the members of this site might have it differently, my fascination with diesel trucks and technology will probably never go away.  So it's probably not worth the time to try and deter me from being curious.  I really have high hopes for Ford on this one.  The 6.0L was somewhat of a black eye on their record, so a lot of folks are on standby, waiting to see if they finally hit the jackpot this round.  Whether or not one of these beasts ends up in the garage next summer is a whole different story.
