FYI, in case anyone is (or might know someone else who is) interested, I am breaking down and selling the beast. I have spent the last few months keeping tabs on on every possible tidbit of info related to the new 2008 Super Duty, and am totally psyched about the upcoming release. They should be hitting dealerships by late Jan, early Feb. However, as excited as I am about Ford's latest endeavor, I don't relish the role of long-term tester. This new engine sounds like a complete beast and I certainly have high hopes for Ford on this one, being a devout SD fan. But for the prices they're asking, I just can't in good conscience spend hard-earned cash on a product that may or may not prove worthy. So I am doing the next best thing. I am letting the rest of the general public spend their $$ instead. Only after they've been out for awhile (a year or two) and proven their case, will I consider plunking down some dollars. And even that is only a possibility.
So while all the 2008 guinea pigs are out testing, I am looking to sell my current truck asap in order to get the best poss value for it. With the recent relocation, our commute is now around 150 miles a day, which adds up quickly both in fuel and maintenance cost. These trucks have always proven useful, but unfortunately, it doesn't make for the greatest commuter vehicle. For the short term, I am looking seriously at the Toyota FJ Cruisers as a possible compromise. I have always heard great things about Toyota trucks (no offense to Fords), especially when it comes to high-mileage reliability and longevity. I test drove one last week and was quite impressed. It's not a luxury mobile, by any stretch of the imagination. But it is quite solid, gets decent mileage (for an SUV) and should do plenty well in the snow.
