    Home Again

Posted by Peggy on Monday, December 03, 2007 @ 10:37 PM
    Hello from Powers
We arrived home yesterday evening, about 8:45, in the WIND and RAIN!  We drove though slushy snow near Mt. Shasta and arrived home during a hurricane, but had no problems.  The house was cold, but thankfully the electric blankets were working.  Richard started a fire and turned up the furnace.  BRRRRRRRRR
About 5:30 this morning, we lost our electric power and shortly thereafter, we lost our phone connection.  The power came back on about 9:30 AM but, the wind and rain continued for most of the day.  We got what was necessary out of the RV and Richard went out to clean out the plugged culverts.  Otherwise we have been inside, the house is warm again, but we still don't have any phone service.
The weatherman says the wind and rain should let up tomorrow - it's already much calmer.  At least the windows don't sound like they're going to blow out.
Violet wanted to start decorating for Christmas today, but I told her we'll have to wait a day or two, since all the stuff is stored in the shop.
It sure doesn't  feel like Christmas - we haven't even had Thanksgiving  yet, have we?

Glad to know you're all back safe and sound.

I saw that the east coast of Oregon was getting hit hard yesterday when I checked the weather for our area. Apparently, the wind is blowing so hard it's reaching Maryland. I'm having an insomnia attack tonight and I've spent most of the night fearing that our roof would be detached by sunrise and we'd lose all power with no hope for a backup heating system - right now, they're saying it's 33 degrees with a "feels like" temp of 18. Jeff's been using the electric blanket for the last week now as I still need the ceiling fan on for a little noise and the cool air (I still have a hard time with hot flashes), but I had moments tonight where I was tempted to turn the heat up to 78 so that it'd take longer for the house to cool if we lost power. Thankfully, no loss of service yet and, as far as I know, the roof is still there.

The lawn outside is covered with a dusting of the white stuff. We were seeing a flake every now and again while driving home yesterday, but I wasn't expecting anything to actually turn white. They're predicting an inch or two on Wednesday...our first real snowfall of the season and a far cry from last year. I believe we were well into January before we saw any snow then.

So...it feels like Christmas here. Of course, we've also had two Thanksgiving dinners, so we've had the added benefit of having lived on turkey for several days now to make it feel more like the holiday season.
