    Birthday Party

Posted by Richard on Monday, November 27, 2006 @ 02:02 AM
Saturday we traveled to Brookings, Or. to celebrate Phyllis Todnem's 100th birthday.  I had not seen her since Grandpa  Todnem [Lawrwnce] died in 1978.  She went with her family back to Ca. and has been in Brookings since around 1998 if I have my facts straight.. She was Grandpa's second wife but they were only together for 4 short years before he died.  She was and still is very gracious and proper.  I can still remember her absolutely perfect pennmanship.  She does look older but also very much the same.  Her hearing and memory are not good but her reflexes are great as she was batting and catching balloons with Violet from her wheel chair All in all she was quite remarkable. The Baker family, John and Barbera live near by the nursing home where Phyllis lives but most of the grand children live in Ca.  I got one picture before our camera went dead but I left our email address and requested some of the photos.  I will post them when they arrive.  All in all it was a good trip and visit and time to catch up.  We were expecting rain all the way but didn't get a drop.  Can't say the same for today.  We got lots of wind and rain starting this morning but it's not white which we are very thankful.  The rest of you can enjoy your snowballs
I am headed for the Chiropractor ASAP tomorrow as my left hip has been locked up since last Wed   Can't seem to find a comfortable position no matter what I try.  Wish I knew the cause or at least a way of self adjustment.  Nothing has worked so far.  All for now got to move.

I am glad that you had a good trip to Brookings.  I am glad that Phyllis is doing so well, and has family close.  I guess that I sort of lost track of her (Mom usually kept track of stuff like that) and I did not realize that she was still here on the planet.  Wow!  One hundred years!  I cannot even imagine the changes in our world, that she has witnessed in her lifetime.

Yeah, I am throwing a big snowball your way, just so that you too can share in this fun.  As of last night, we have over a foot, and I have not looked yet this morning.  I have decided that I am not going anywhere today, as the one house I have on my schedule can easily be done tomorrow.  I do not know what I was thinking, but instead of steadily cleaning my car off, as the snow hit, I just left it parked in the drive, to accumulate icy layer, after snowy layer, after icy layer....I am betting that it takes me an hour just to get my car unburied today.  Rookie.  I should know better than that...and it is not as though I could not have parked it in the garage!  Michael says that I can have the little shop for parking my car.  I guess that the big shop is filled up with two Jeeps, and three Ford Trucks.  It would be ridiculous to think that he should have built a bigger shop, right???  The little shop is also the door without the opener....sigh.  Oh well, Brianna and I will have all day to get the car in working order.  I suppose that I should probably change the oil today too.

How can your hip be locked up, and your back not screaming?  Yikes!  Happy crunching, pulling etc.  I hope that you get all loosened up, and are not too stiff after.  You really need a hot tub!

I am gonna send Violet the knitting set for her Birthday...it looks like fun, and knitting is all the "thing" again.  It also has an instructional booklet, so Peggy should be off the hook for providing directions.  I will send the beading kit for Christmas...both of these things are items that can be built on for future celebrations, and will keep her busy and entertained...plus pride of accomplishment????   Will you email me the physical address, so that I can send stuff UPS?  I can never remember the whole thing.

    HUGS!

If Violet really enjoys these projects, then it occurs to me that you might have some "currency" to work with....future yarn, and beads, for projects.  Always thinkin'....
