    Port Angeles Update

Posted by Richard on Tuesday, January 29, 2008 @ 01:58 AM
The wedding was great for those who enjoy weddings.  I will admit that it does supply some good reminders as well as memories.  It was quite elegant at the Sonqualmie Falls Lodge.   The most difficult moment was when Peggy reminded me that we could be doing this in another 10+ years.   The weather was not great , a combination of rain and snow.  Jan dropped off Mom at Lois and Mike's and we all drove to Port Angeles Sunday.  Then Sunday nite it snowed several inches so it was a bit iffy getting up Dave's driveway today.  To make things even more inyeresting I called Grandpa Ed and found out he had 12 " of snow with no power since sometime Sun and more was coming down.  He wasn't sure he could get his 4 wheeler thru that much snow to get to our house and even if he did Barnaby was at his house in his big cage which he can't move.  We ended up with a plan to take his 4 wheeler down to the shop and then take the backhoe to clear the driveways.  In the mean time we called a neighbor to help him move to our house.  In the end by the time the neighbor got there they met him clear down at the end of the property plowing the driveway.  Evidently he was just having tooo  much fun to stop plowing.  By the time he got back to the shop the snow was starting to melt and the power was back on so it was a happy ending.  Ya just have to wonder the one week in ten years we chose to be gone we get 12 inches of snow???

I am glad to hear that Grandpa is plowed out and has lights.  Whew!  He might have had to send Barnaby out for help!

I am also pleased that everyone enjoyed the wedding.  I think that I would stress the + on those ten years...you have a ways to go, so relax!

Given the status of the weather, we will most likely NOT be heading for Port Angeles this weekend.  I had given it some thought, but since  the whole of Washington seems to be getting smacked with snow, driving may be a challenge...especially for those in the Seattle area that think they see a snow flake, and slow to a minute crawl just in case.

I am going to have a talk with Steve today about a couple of things.  I am going to find out if they really want to keep me on staff (or if they can budgetwise) and I am also going to see if he will let me have a week's vacation in February.  He is on vacation for two weeks in February, and I am thinking that I could be gone to.  If that is the case, perhaps we can visit South the second week of February?

We are refrigerator shopping.  While the freezer seems to be working fine, the 'fridge portion is not cooling.  We could have someone come and take a look at it, but it is $90.00 for the trip fee, plus whatever it takes to fix it..and since it is between fifteen and twenty years old, Michael has been campaigning for a new one anyway.  The only catch is that Michael once took about forty five minutes to pick out a toaster at BiMart.  He is diligent about looking, researching and getting all of the information, but it is hard to choose between them.  I have left the decision to him, as I am not particular.  If it keeps the food cold, I am happy.  I am at a loss as to why the world thinks that stainless steel and black are the new in colors.  They are both a booger to keep looking clean and smudge free.  It is good news for me, as white is less expensive.  The weather is cooperating, and I currently have a lot of frozen food out on the back deck.  It is quite amusing to have to go outside the back door to get my milk!  I remember refrigerating food like that in college...putting it on the ledge outside my dorm window....I guess it works.

I am headed for work....today is the big W2 day....I am ready, I just have to print them and get them in the mail, which will be a tediously slow process.  Love to all!
